Medicine Master Jeweled Repentance

Medicine Master Jeweled Repentance

If we constantly think of shame and remorse everyday
Arrogance can be melted away even if it is as high as a mountain,
Dharma water will flow everywhere.

If we can repent first before doing anything else,
The fire of three poisons will be extinguished instantly.
Compassionate light shines through pervasively.

December 27 Schedule:
8:30am Celebration of Amitabha Buddha’s Birthday
10:00am Liberation of Life Ceremony
1:00-4:00pm Amitabha Session, Transference of Merit

During the Amitabha Session, we will single-mindedly recite Amitabha Buddha’s name to purify our body, mouth and mind and to perfect our faith of being reborn in the Western Pure Land. May we take this special opportunity to cultivate together and gain benefits of this dharma practice.

If you recite the Buddha’s name, reciting without cease,
The mouth recites “Amita” and makes things of a piece.
Scattered thoughts do not arise, samadhi you attain.
For rebirth in the Pure Land, your hope is not in vain.

Mindful of the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha,
One is born in the jeweled lotuses of the pure lands of the ten directions.
When the lotus blossom opens, the Buddha manifests and one attains full realization.
One is then free in each moment to come and go.

Everyone is welcome to join us, single-mindedly reciting Amitabha Buddha’s name.

Shurangama Sutra Study Group (in Mandarin Chinese)

Shurangama Sutra Study Group (in Mandarin Chinese)

Lecturer: Dharma Master Jin Yu
Every Monday & Tuesday, 7:30-9:00pm

Unless you read the Shurangama Sutra, you won’t know the key to cultivating the mind and awakening from confusion.

The Venerable Master Hsuan Hua’s said in one of his talks:
The Great Master Han Shan (Silly Mountain) once said: “Unless you read the Shurangama Sutra, you won’t know the key to cultivating the mind and awakening from confusion.” This says it exactly right, because every dharma that exists is found within the Shurangama Sutra, so there are no potentials it fails to attract. It is the essential Dharma for all generations: It is the right seal for becoming a Buddha or a Patriarch.

Amitabha Session

Amitabha Session

Dear Dharma friends,

We will be celebrating Amitabha Buddha’s birthday on December 15 (Sunday) and have our annual week-long Amitabha Buddha Recitation Session from Decemeber 15th to the 21st. The session will start from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m; we will recite the Amitabha Buddha Sutra twice and recite Amitabha Buddha’s name daily.

* Celebration of Amitabha Buddha’s Birthday – December 15, 2013
* Amitabha Session – December 15-21, 2013schedule

The Saha world’s unlimited impermanence, unlimited darkness, unlimited hardships, myriads of painful illness, myriads of entanglements, myriads of afflictions, they have no boundaries and are like seas of suffering.

Amitabha Buddha has all kinds of great vows, all encompassing compassion, all encompassing types of mindfulness, all kinds of relief, all kinds of teachings, all kinds of expedients, they have no limit and is like the vessel for salvation.

In this Pureland within this mundane world, the Buddha’s name was recited sound after sound. In the Land of Ultimate Bliss, lotus flowers are flourishing day by day. In a seven-day session, the nature of Thus Come One’s mind is revealed. One can suddenly attain certification of enlightenment, as though one has first awakened from the big dream.

We recite the Buddha’s name with sincerity and honesty. There’s no a trace of false thought in our minds, and our minds which can correspond with one another. Our minds can transform the outer states. All mundane and filthy dust becomes the pure land.

We recite the Buddha’s name continually and unceasingly. Our bodies emit light of kindness, light shines upon one another. This light can remove darkness. All beings on the path of evil destiny will ascent to Heaven.

We recite the Buddha’s name with the thought that both people and Dharma are empty. There are only the vows left. All vows contain compassion and sympathy. Vows can unite all beings. All living beings whether with sentient or without sentient can accomplish Buddha hood.

When one does good deeds wholeheartedly, one lamp can light up to 100 lamps. When being kind and compassionate in every thought, demons can be turned into Buddha’s disciples. When uniting everyone’s strength, tasks can be accomplished, and energy can be garnered to save the world.

When all the light of the world shines together, reciting the Buddha’s name will bring blessings to the world.

Invitation to the Inauguration Ceremony at Gold Buddha Monastery

Gold Buddha Monastery, located in Vancouver, Canada will celebrate the completion of its 10,000 Buddha Hall at the end of August, after more than two years of construction. As part of the inaugration of the Vairochana Buddha statue, Gold Buddha Monastery will hold a series of events:

August 31st (Saturday) afternoon: Transmission of the three refuges and five precepts. In the evening, Reverend Heng Sure will host the ceremony for transmitting precepts for the deceased. This is a ceremony for those who wish to take precepts on behalf of their deceased relatives and friends, so that they may also plant seeds of the Jeweled Vajra precepts life after life. This ceremony is beneficial for both the living and the deceased. After the ceremony, Dharma Masters will give talks on the dharma.

September 1st (Sunday): Dragon and Lion Dances by members of the Boys’ Developing Virtue High School and Gold Buddha Monastery’s Taiko Drumming group will open the day. After that a High Meal Offering Ceremony will commence. The ceremony is a formal request for the Dharma host to speak Dharma. The Venerable Master had said, ”This kind of ceremony is very important to the monastery. Members of the fourfold assembly who live in the monastery must attend this ceremony. A billboard will post the talks given for one and half months or a week … The high meal offering is held in a lively setting; the drum and bell are played and then Dharma is spoken for those who make the request.” This ceremony will be the first held in North America after the Venerable Master’s entering nirvana, so there’s profound meaning in this.

Sept. 2nd – Sept, 10th: Emperor Liang’s Jeweled Repentance, We welcome all, old and new, to attend.

Gold Buddha Monastery sincerely invites all of you to attend these activities mentioned above.

Precepts for the Deceased: An Inconceivable Dharma Door

Taking the Precepts for the Deceased is an act of great filial respect. People who recite the Earth Store Sutra ought to know this. We’re here in the yang (positive energy) realm but when people die they leave the yang realm. And their intermediate body are in purgatory, and it can be called the realm of King Yama. Sometimes King Yama does not immediately determine a soul’s next rebirth, and so it remains in the underworld. ( Continue reading )
