The Origins of the Three Types of Disasters

The three types of disasters vary only in degree. The three major disasters are fire, flood and hurricane. The three minor disasters are warfare, hunger and plague. These are times of disasters. One great eon is separated into the four medium eons of "formation, dwelling, decay, and emptiness." Each medium eon contains twenty small eons. Towards the conclusion of every eon of dwelling as the number of eons is on the decline, three minor disasters occur. During the eon of decay in a great eon, the three major disasters occur. Now let's talk about the reasons for the three great disasters.

Fires occur because of greed. Floods occur because of hatred. Hurricanes occur because of delusion. The three disasters happen because of the three poisons. Each of us is full of these three poisons of greed, hatred and delusion. These poisons expand until they reach a certain extent, which is the onset of a major disaster!

The three disasters occur in sequence because people have the seven types of emotions (joy, anger, sadness, fear, love, dislike and desire). As these seven kinds of emotions gradually build up, one disaster occurs for each emotion so that there will be seven fires. After seven fires is one flood. Since each type of emotion out of the seven is further divided into seven, this series of "seven fires and one flood" go down and back up the list of seven stages of emotions for seven rounds. Subsequently, seven more fires occur but a hurricane follows and destroys the world completely. Then fires occur, they can only reach the First Dhyana Heaven (the Multitude of Brahmans Heaven, the Brahama Generals Heaven, the Great Brahma Heaven in the Form Realm). When floods occur, they can only drown up to the Second Dhyana Heaven (the Lesser Light Heaven, Limitless Light Heaven, the Sound of Light Heaven in the Form Realm). When hurricanes occur, it can blow down the Third Dhyana Heaven (the Lesser Purity Heaven, Limitless Purity Heaven, and Pervasive Purity Heaven in the Form Realm). The saying goes:

All the heavens of six desires are full of the five decays
The Third Dhyana Heaven meet hurricanes
You may cultivate until you reach Neither Thinking Nor Non
But it would be better to go back to the Western Pureland.

Where did hurricanes come from? They come from a combination of the seven types of emotions. Hurricanes symbolize the poison of delusion, in the sense that people are deluded to the point that they forget absolutely everything, for example. Therefore when a major hurricane rises, it reaches the Third Dhyana Heaven up above and the hells below. There is nothing left, everything is swept away. Whether fire, flood or hurricane takes place, the inner court of Tushita Heaven will always remain and remain absolutely unaffected. This is because this is the pureland for Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Maitreya Bodhisattva now lives in the inner court of the Tushita Heaven. By the time it is the tenth eon of dwelling (we are currently in the ninth eon of dwelling on the count back down to one) during the Worthy Kalpa, he will come into the Saha World to teach the multitude of beings.

Greed, hatred, and delusion create all kinds of violence, like atoms in atom bombs. Atoms are scary material, but atoms born from our Samadhi fire are even scarier. This kind of atom is not from outside but is replete in our inherent nature. The true fire of our inherent Samadhi is purely positivistic, due to abuse, however, it turns into the fire of desire. The human body contains the fires of three sections. The fire of the three sections can develop into fire and become atom bombs to destroy everything.

Since we have atom bombs inside, there are atom bombs outside. This occurs because they respond to each other and become continuations of each other. The world's problems exist now for the same reason. Whatever happens inside happens outside. If there were no war in our minds then there wouldn't be war outside since "everything is made from the mind alone."
